Doris' holiday 2017 blog post

Hi Everybody!

It’s hard to believe another year has gone and the holidays are here!  It’s a busy time, as always, here at Overlook, between the mountains of holiday mail and visiting with my pals. But I’m enjoying it all, and thank you for thinking of me and the precious four-leggers.

It’s been quite a year, starting with DDAF’s fundraiser to celebrate my birthday.  I’m truly touched that so many of you came to Carmel and helped raise money for the sweet animals. It means so much to me.  I’m sending a big thanks to all of you and to our generous sponsors for making the event such a huge success!  I’m also very grateful to our friend, Scottie Dreier, for being our emcee and performing with the lovely Laura Didier at the Cypress Inn, and to Miriam Nelson and Peter Baldwin for being our special guests and sharing stories from their Hollywood days.  All of us at DDAF were saddened to hear of Peter’s recent passing, and we send our love to his wife, Terry, and his entire family.  I hope you’ll enjoy the photos we’ve posted here from the event.

In June, I was inducted into the German-American Hall of Fame, and in September, my hometown of Cincinnati honored me with my own street and my own day. I couldn’t believe it! I often think of the fun I had growing up there and wish I could have gone back for the ceremony, but hearing all about it and seeing the photos was the next best thing.

My friends at DDAF have been busy, too, helping the many animals that were displaced by this year’s hurricanes and fires. It’s all because of your generosity that we were able to assist the wonderful organizations that were right there to rescue and care for those pets until they could be reunited with their people or new homes could be found. We’ve also been supporting many more organizations across the country that opened their hearts and doors to take in the homeless pets from the affected area shelters. They are working hard to ensure those temporarily separated from their families could be cared for close to home and more quickly reunited. The work will continue for quite some time, and as I always say, we couldn’t do it without you! I want you to know how much your donations are appreciated and what a difference they make, no matter what the amount.

We have some other fun ways to support DDAF, too. If you haven’t done your holiday shopping yet, we have a brand new 2017 Edition Christmas Ornament in our online store, along with other items for your animal-loving friends and family.

Also, our friend, Stephen Munns, has once again created a calendar of my photos, which you can purchase directly from his Doris Day Tribute website. All proceeds benefit DDAF, and I’m grateful to Stephen for his dedication to this project during the last decade.

If you’re on our email list, you’ve recently received the announcement about our 2018 annual fundraiser in Carmel, the weekend of March 29-31, 2018.  It’s always fun to see what my pals at DDAF cook up for you, and this one promises to be a doozie! I can’t believe it, but next year is the 50th anniversary of my last movie, “With Six You Get Eggroll,” and we’ll have a special screening of the film, along with a Q&A with some of my co-stars, a live auction, raffle, and Scott Dreier’s brand-new live show of my music — all to benefit the animals!   You can find all of the information about purchasing the entertainment package and reserving your hotel here.

Thank you again, my dear friends, for your love and support.  I hope you will keep your loved ones close to you, and your precious pets safe and warm this holiday season.

I love you all and wish you much joy and peace in the New Year.
