Doris' August Blog Post

Hi Everybody!

I know it’s been a long time since you’ve heard from me, and I’m sorry for being so late.  Things have really been busy around here with so many of my dear friends visiting.  I love it, of course, but would you believe I’m STILL trying to make my way through all of your sweet birthday gifts and wishes from APRIL!

Many of you came back to Carmel to celebrate again this year, and it sounded as though you had a really good time—not only getting together with each other, but helping raise money for DDAF.  And thanks to my darling Jim Martinez and Laura Didier who performed their jazz concert of my songs again this year and were joined by the talented Scott Dreier, who also hosted the live auction that raised even more money for the precious babies.  I heard the show was wonderful, and I’m thrilled that I was able to see some of it on my little computer.  I hope you enjoy the photos we’ve posted.

And, as if that weren’t enough, across the street at the Church of the Wayfarer, there was a Community Birthday Celebration and Tribute…to ME (!!!)   Can you imagine!  I understand the Mayor and some of our other community officials said some very kind things, along with my pal—and Cypress Inn partner—Denny LeVett.   I wish I could have seen the children’s choir, singing “Please Don’t Eat the Daisies” and their own version of “Que Sera Sera.”

There just aren’t enough words to thank those of you who made the journey to Carmel to make my birthday so special…Jim, Laura and Scottie…and my DDAF pals and the volunteers who always work so hard for my Foundation to help me make this a better world for the animals. And, of course, ALL OF YOU around the world, who are so thoughtful with your good wishes and generous donations.

Most of you have probably received my recent email about the nail polish gift set offer with a $50 donation.  I really wanted to find a personal way to thank you for supporting DDAF and helping the precious babies.  I had such fun selecting and naming the colors, that I thought you might enjoy them, too.  (For all you gentlemen, they make great gifts for the ladies in your life!)  You can take advantage of this offer as long as supplies last by checking the box on our online donation form with your minimum $50 donation.

Thank you all again for your love and support—it means the world to me.  Don’t forget to give all your babies a big hug and a kiss from me, and I’ll leave you with one very important summer reminder:  Please, please NEVER leave your babies—two-legged or four-legged—in a hot car!

I love you all!

Toodleloo!
